Cuba: Trinidad

Got the Viazul bus from Santa Clara to Trinidad, the journey was 3 hours and it was an air conditioned coach. When we arrived we were inundated with casa owners desperate for us to stay in their casa as it was low season. We had booked a casa and they said they would have a bici taxi waiting for us, but they thought we were coming from Havana so they were waiting at the wrong time.

First thing we had to do was go find a doctor as Phil was still really sick and there was no doctor in Santa Clara that we could use. The doctor’s was a quirky experience. Arrived and everyone was just lying around watching TV. We were told to have a seat (probably while someone ran and woke the doctor up). Went into his office and it was very old school, the doctor was a small old man and all his utensils were given to him wrapped up in brown paper by a nurse who like the military was wearing high heels, short white dress, fish nets and a little tiny hat hiding her hair which was in a bun. He gave Philip antibiotics, pain killers and pills for fever and said he would be fine.
So next day we went to Playa Ancon beach, 15km from Trinidad, we got the bus there and back for $2 and spent the whole day chilling out under a palm tree and swimming in the Caribbean. Went back to Trinidad and had our first Salsa lesson with a funny Cuban man who was slowly losing the will the live throughout the hour lesson as me and Phil were hopeless. We loved Trinidad so much we decided to stay another night as there was so much to do.

Stayed at the El Tulpin Casa, it was lovely! Maria and Bernardo owned the casa. Maria was Dutch and Bernardo Cuban. It was brand new, only set up their casa 4 months and we had the whole top floor, our own private bedroom and bathroom, large roof terrace, fridge and private entrance (their back door). They had written their own little Trinidad guide book to help figure out what you can do in Trinidad.
