Cuba: Money

We had changed money at the airport as you can't buy the currency before you arrive, it’s called Cuban convertibles, but there is two currencies the other is called the Cuban peso.  The CUC is the equivalent to the Canadian dollar/65p and the peso is 25pesos to the CUC.  Example of prices was Banana 1peso (4c /2p) Peso Pizza (20c/10p) night at casa ($25/£16).

We wanted to get some Cuban peso so we could buy cheap fruit and peso pizza and spend in the markets... this was a mission, we got thrown out of one bank, then refused entry into the next two then finally got into the last bank, to then realise they thought we wanted to exchange foreign currency and therefore got thrown out of that one. Finally figured out that we had to go to a different bank, which we had to queue for about 30 minutes as only 5 people are allowed inside at a time and be constantly asked if we wanted to buy cigars or money of everyone in the queue. Cubans also have their own system of queuing which we only realised half way through the trip, they don't line up they arrive and ask who’s last then go stand in a random spot then just appear when they know it’s their turn.... that was an experience.
